Japan Air Gases starts operations of a New Oxygen VSA for Chlorine-Free Pulp Bleaching (November 16, 2006)

An increasing number of paper mills are adopting chlorine free bleaching methods using ozone as an alternative of chlorine in order to reduce chlororganic compound emission for preserving the environment.

Daio Paper Corporation and Japan Air Gases (JAG) through its affiliate Takamatsu Teisan, have been engaged in a long term cooperation to bring innovative gas solutions that can improve the efficiency or preserve the environment for paper mills.

Therefore, when Daio Paper announced its intent to implement an environmental friendly ozone bleaching process at its Mishima Plant (Shikoku Chuo City, Ehime Prefecture), JAG was committed to support Daio Paper with its international expertise to optimize the technical solution. As a result, JAG will supply Daio Paper with O2 produced by a new additional on site VSA for the ozone bleaching process.

Daio Paperfs strong commitment to the preservation of environment is shown in the gDAIO Earth Environment Charterh. Among the programs described, reducing the amount of chlorine used in the paper production processes has been at the core of many initiatives. With the introduction of the ozone bleaching, the Mishima plant has achieved 100% chlorine-free operation.

Guy Salzgeber President and CEO of JAG, declared: gJAG is very honored by the long term trust and cooperation with Daio Paper, one of Japanfs leading Paper Manufacturers. In this project, the oxygen that we produce will be used to generate ozone necessary for processing 1,600 tonnes of pulp daily, which is Japanfs largest operation of its kind. JAG is committed to continuously bringing to its customers the latest expertise and technologies in the field of industrial gases for their successful development and growth in the full respect of environment.h
