JAPAN AIR GASES reinforces “TOPTIG®*” sales promotion with DAIHEN [Nov. 10, 2008]

Japan Air Gases has started marketing “TOPTIG”, a high-speed TIG welding system that is developed by its parent company, Air Liquide Group, since 2006. Combining advantages of MIG welding speed and TIG quality, the recognition to this technology and sales record have been steadily increasing.

In this environment, we are pleased to announce that we agreed with DAIHEN, a leading welding equipment, manufacturer on business alliance to further increase the recognition of TOPTIG brand in the market. By this agreement, both companies aim at acceleration of sales promotion so that those advantages that TOPTIG bring can be enjoyed by more customers who use welding technology in such industries as automotive and shipbuilding, emphasizing more and more on efficiency, quality, and environment.

Daihen will start promoting “Almega Premium TOPTIG Package”, a complete system that combines TOPTIG welding torch developed by Air Liquide with its own welding machine and robot, from end of December 2008, Japan Air Gases will continue to promote TOPTIG for combination with other robots or for mounting onto existing welding system. Synergy effects from complementary sales channels of Japan Air Gases, industrial gas company, and DAIHEN, welding equipment manufacturer, will contribute greatly to higher market penetration of TOPTIG brand and its advantages.

Jean-Francois Lecouffe, General Manager of Industrial Merchant Business Division, Japan Air Gases, commented, “It is my great pleasure that our TOPTIG is highly recognized by DAIHEN, a leading company in welding industry, and that we agreed on business alliance. I believe that this partnership will benefit customers of both companies, and lead to business development for the future.”

TOPTIG® Technology

The newly developed TOPTIG® consists in a non-melting electrode arc process by which the welding rod comes inside and through the nozzle at the edge of its torch under very specific criteria. Thanks to this, the welding rod melts in the hottest part of the arc area having the highest temperature, and thus transfers to the metal piece in liquid flow just as in MIG/MAG welding. Thanks to this innovation, TOPTIG® achieves welding speed comparable to, or even faster than, MIG/MAG welding. Besides the bead appearance, quality and finish of the bead with the technology is even better than the TIG result without any spattering and no post-treatment required. On top of these advantages, TOPTIG®’s torch has been designed with a very compact torch for wider robotic applications, and is capable of narrow space welding that is impossible to do with traditional TIG welding torches.
The TOPTIG® system, consisting of specific torch, cable, welding generator and wire feeder, can be applied to any type of welding robot, and added-on to existing TIG welding robots for lower cost adoption.
Japan Air Gases recommends “Pure-Shield® T-12” as high-quality shield gas for TOPTIG system
